Poverty is reduced by Knowledge and Access to Information, SPPI beneficiary Babylyn Cabacang

Excerpts from the 2015 Annual Report of Sentro ha Pagpauswag ha Panginabuhi, Inc. (SPPI) about the story of Babylyn Cabacang, member of BUDLIS PO in Barangay Sawang, Capul, Northern Samar

(Poverty was what signaled me to join the organization, BUDLIS, in 2006.  I have plenty of street smarts on ways to get by but I have very limited formal knowledge.)

(It was very beneficial for me to join BUDLIS, which was supported by SPPI.  I learned about various livelihood activities like food processing, bag making, I even learned bookkeeping and a lot more practical things.)

(My husband took to seaweeds planting and it was a positive move for us.  We became partners in our seaweeds farming and marketing activities.  In April, 2015, when our only child got sick, it was the income from seaweeds that financed her hospitalization.  I earned six thousand pesos (Php6,000.00 from selling dried seaweeds.

(We encountered problems in farming seaweeds like the changes in the weather condition and seaweeds diseases but we do not see these as hindrances to our livelihood efforts.)

(There are many ways to earn money when people are knowledgeable, and with perseverance and determination in life.)

(I will continue to attend training activities facilitated by SPPI so I can gain more knowledge.  I wish that they can help more poor people in the area.)
